History

Engineering Unlimited has been helping global manufacturers, mining companies and industrial operators design and improve their process control systems for more than 40 years.

Engineering Origins

Engineering Unlimited was founded by engineer Joe Werner and three partners in 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their objective: build reliable and well-supported small electrical control systems for medical and industrial manufacturers. Growth proceeded over the decades. That growth has been marked by milestones, from expanding into control system design in the 1980s, to relocating into a new 24,000-square-foot facility in 1991, to supporting larger customer projects.

Expanding Business

Engineering Unlimited brought a new line of business in 1970 when it purchased Sterling Lock Company. The company’s padlocks offered a low-cost solution for utility markets to help secure their field-mounted utility boxes. Now known as Sterling Security Systems, the business surpassed $1 million in sales for the first time in 2000 and continues to thrive with a portfolio of padlocks, disposable locks and one-shot seals.  A New Era

Engineering Unlimited entered a new era in 2005 when Joe Werner’s son, Bob Werner, was chosen to lead the company. Today, Bob leads a team of highly skilled industry professionals who are designing, installing and supporting process control systems across multiple industries and in regions around the world.
